Monitoring Emergencies: Peru - 05/31/2016: State of Emergency declared for seven provinces in Apurimac department due to drought

A state of emergency has been declared for seven provinces in the department of Apurimac due to El Niño, for the implementation of immediate measures and necessary response and rehabilitation in the affected areas. Damages and losses in livestock and agriculture are expected during the month of June, as of May 31, 2016, 4,995 hectares of crops have been destroyed and 44, 858 hectares have been damaged due to water shortage. The effect of the drought is threatening the food security of vulnerable populations and causing economic losses. (M: ANDINA)
