The El Niño phenomenon is intensely affecting Peru. The rains have mainly affected the departments of Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque and La Libertad. COEN reported on March 15 that there are 62,642 people were directly impacted by the storms (46% in Lambayeque and 24% in Piura), 552, 866 people affected, 62 dead, and 170 injured. 7,974 houses have collapsed and 7,925 are uninhabitable.
