At least nine killed in Peru landslides

Landslides caused by torrential rains killed at least nine people in the Peruvian city of Ayacucho, local media reported Thursday.

Another 22 people were injured, some seriously, in the landslides triggered by three hours of rainfall in the historic Andean city about 600 kilometres southeast of the capital, Lima, dpa reported.

Water, mud and stones from the surrounding mountains gushed down the streets of Ayacucho causing damage to homes and vehicles.
