The Red Cross Society of China on Thursday donated 30,000 U.S. dollars to the Peruvian Red Cross (CRP) to support people affected by the 8.1-magnitude earthquake that shook the southern province of Ica in 2007.
"Although the donation is not of a huge sum, it carries our sincerity," said Chinese Ambassador to Peru Zhao Wuyi when presenting the donation to CRP President Maria Garcia.
Garcia thanked China's humanitarian support and said the money will be used especially to improve the housing and infrastructure in affected regions.
It will also be used on preventive programs against natural disasters, Garcia said.
The 2007 Ica earthquake killed 596 people and destroyed more than 70,000 houses. Many of the affected regions have not fully recovered yet.
