Paraguay – Severe Weather (Paraguay Gov., NMS, Media) (ECHO Daily Flash 31 July 2014)

Higher than normal rainfall in the north and east of Paraguay in the month of July has caused a significant increase of the Paraguay river levels. The river overflowed affecting the central departments of San Pedro, Guaira and Asuncion.

As of 30 July, up to 36 000 people are sheltered in public spaces in the worsed affected municipality of Asuncion. The river levels have also reportedly started decreasing. Over the next 48 h low rainfall is forecast for the whole country.
