This revised Emergency Appeal seeks 198,568 Swiss francs with a revised appeal budget of 1,144,516 Swiss francs to enable the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to support the Paraguayan Red Cross (PRC) to deliver assistance and support to 24,560 people with a focus on health; water, sanitation and hygiene; livelihoods, nutrition and food security; disaster risk reduction; National Society capacity building; building a culture of non-violence and peace (protection) and quality programming. In direct coordination with the PRC, the IFRC is revising this emergency appeal and increasing the operation's timeframe from 10 to 12 months and reducing the operation’s original budget of 2,084,871 Swiss francs. The budget has been reduced based on the prioritization of activities assessed according to current scenarios and the resources available through the response to the appeal to date.
The disaster and the Red Cross Red Crescent response to date
December 2015: Intense storms and substantial rainfall, linked to the El Niño affected 27,290 families (136,450 people) in 10 departments in Paraguay.
24 December 2015: 155,097 Swiss francs allocated from the IFRC’s Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) to support the delivery of immediate relief assistance.
8 January 2016: The escalating situation in other parts of the country resulted in a request for an additional 50,000 Swiss francs from the DREF reaching a total of 205,097 Swiss francs. 27 January 2016: Emergency Appeal launched for 2,084,871 Swiss francs to reach 24,560 people.
22 September 2016: IFRC issues a revised Emergency Appeal with a revised appeal budget of 1,144,516 Swiss francs and increased timeframe of 12 months to reach 24,560 flood-affected people.
