PNG authorities concerned over cholera cases

Health authorities in Papua New Guinea are concerned about an alarming increase in the number of cholera cases in Morobe Province over the past six weeks.

The Cholera National Coordinator for PNG, Dr Victor Golpak says a lack of government funding is hampering efforts to fight the disease.

Dr Golpek told Radio Australia's Tok Pisin service health authorities so far have only received a third of the funding promised to them.

"The government actually approved $11 million for this fight," he said.

"This was approved in September, now as of now we have only received $3 million from the allocated $11 million."
