Papua New Guinea – Floods in Gulf Province (ECHO Daily Flash of 10 July 2014)

  • Continuous heavy rain since June caused flooding in Baimuru and Kikori districts of Gulf Province.

  • Approximately 4 000 households (27 017 people) have been affected. No casualties have been reported. 37 houses and food gardens were washed away. Water sources were polluted by chemicals from the drilling areas. Shelters and food are needed for the most affected people in Baimuru (11 369 people).

  • National authorities are planning the proper response in coordination with Disaster Management Team (DMT)
