A 6.6 M earthquake at a depth of 110 km struck southern Madang Province, northern Papua New Guinea, on 22 December 2023 at 10:31 UTC (20:31 local time, UTC+10). The epicentre was located 41 km north of Goroka town.
According to USGS PAGER, up to 2 000 people were exposed to strong shaking, while 893 000 people experienced moderate shaking.
According to media, no immediate casualties or damage have been recorded.
