Tropical storm RAI (locally known in the Philippines as Odette) is intensifying, as it moves westwards over the western Pacific. On 14 December at 0.00 UTC, its centre was located about 250 km east of Palau, with maximum sustained winds of 95 km/h. During the morning of 14 December, RAI is expected to further intensify, as it passes north of Palau. Then it is forecast to move towards the Philippines, reaching the Eastern Visayas in the morning of 16 December, with maximum sustained winds up to 175 km/h. In the Philippines, national authorities have started with preparedness and response measures, ahead of the arrival of RAI. A typhoon warning is in effect for Palau. On 14 December, heavy rain and strong winds are expected for Palau, and from 15 December for central and southern Philippines.
