World Bank to provide $400m for promotion of education
KARACHI: The Country Director of World Bank Mr. Rachied Benmessaoud on Monday called on Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah at the CM House. He was accompanied by two-member delegation, while Additional Chief Secretary (P&D) Mr. Arif Ahmed Khan and Secretary Finance Mr. Naveed Kamran Baloch were also present. Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah in his views thanked the World Bank for extending assistance & cooperation for various development projects in the province of Sindh particularly the agriculture, irrigation, education, health and other sectors. He assured that the provincial government was paying full attention for timely completion and as per quality standards for those schemes.
Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that general elections are being held in Pakistan and politicians will certainly be engaged in activities but the politicians always give policies and programmes and officers and relevant departments have to implement and follow those policies. Chief Minister Sindh added that overall it is responsibility of those officers to ensure implementation of those policies and programmes without any delay. He further informed that the hindrances in way of furtherance's of education will be removed. He added that the process of appointment of teachers is being held on transparent manners and on merit. Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that previously 16,000 teachers have been inducted while 19,000 more teachers are being taken under prescribed international standards purely on Merit.
He made it clear that there is no any interference from Government and said that it is endeavor of present Government to promote and spread education in far flung areas and rural areas. Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that many closed schools have been revived and reopened, while the remaining schools are being revived and reactivated soon, and Deputy Commissioners of respective districts will play important role. Syed Qaim Ali Shah added that monitoring cell in P&D Department is doing a lot for detection of irregularities and maintain quality of those schemes. He said that in spite of heavy rains and floods, the pace of development continued and the production in various crops has increased.
On the occasion, the Country Director of World Bank Mr. Rachied Benmessaoud appreciated the process of appointment of teachers in transparent manners and on merit. He added that World Bank wants to see quality education to every person & citizen of Pakistan, and wants to see increase in production in all sectors particularly in products of agriculture. He informed that the World Bank has decided to provide funds worth $ 400 million to Sindh Government for promotion and furtherance of education. He further assured that World Bank will also provide assistance for irrigation and agriculture sectors.
Consul General of Iran calls on Sindh CM: Consul General of Iran stationed at Karachi Mr. Mehdi Sobhani on Monday called on Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah at Chief Minister House. Chief Minister Sindh welcomed the Consul General and informed him programmes and achievements of provincial government. He informed that the present Government is completing its constitutional tenure and will go to participate in election.
