Wild Poliovirus

No new WPV1 cases reported this week. The total WPV1 cases count for 2025 to date is 7 (1 from Afghanistan and 6 from Pakistan). In 2024, the total case count remains 99 (25 from Afghanistan and 74 from Pakistan).

Eighteen new WPV1 positive ES reported this week in 2025, all from Pakistan. The newly reported WPV1 ES are as follows: 7 from Balochistan province (1 each from Quetta, Gwadur, Kech, Usta Muhammad, Nsirabad, Killa Saifulah, and Khuzdar districts), and 4 each from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province (2 from Bannu and 1 each from Abotabad and Tank districts) and Sindh province (2 each from Karachi South and Karachi East towns), and 3 from Punjab province (2 from Lahore and 1 from Sargodha districts), with samples collection dates between 10th to 18th February 2025. The total ES count to date in 2025 is 139 (9 from Afghanistan and 130 from Pakistan) compared to 741 in 2024 (113 from Afghanistan and 628 from Pakistan).
Vaccine derived poliovirus (VDPV)

No new cVDPV2 cases reported this week. The cVDPV2 cases count in 2025 to date is 1 (from Djibouti) compared to 41 in 2024 (37 from Yemen, 3 from Somalia, and 1 from Occupied Palestinian Territory).

Three new cVDPV2 ES in 2025 reported this week from Occupied Palestinian Territory. The newly reported cVDPV2 ES are all from Gaza Strip province (Deir Al-Balah, Gaza, and Khan Younis districts), with samples collection dates between 4 th and 6 th February 2025. The count of cVDPV2 from ES in 2025 is 6, all from Occupied Palestinian Territory, as compared to 42 in 2024 (20 from Occupied Palestinian Territory, 7 each from Yemen and Djibouti, 3 from Somalia, 2 each from Egypt and Sudan, and 1 in Bahrain).

One new aVDPV2 ES in 2025 reported this week from Occupied Palestinian Territory. The newly reported aVDPV2 ES is from Deir Al-Balah district of Gaza Strip province, with sample collection date onth February 2025.
