Highlights

  • The 2024 monsoon season resulted in 357 lives lost (over 50 per cent children), 143,101 displaced people, damaged critical infrastructure, and submerged farmland, threatening food security and livelihoods.
  • Support for Afghan refugees residing in Pakistan remains complex, with the Illegal Foreigners Repatriation Plan creating uncertainty. 243,926 Afghans have returned in 2024.
  • UNICEF continues to support access to critical nutrition services to reduce acute malnutrition, as currently one in five children in Pakistan are acutely malnourished. In 2024, UNICEF admitted 57,800 children (31,437 girls) for severe acute malnutrition treatment.
  • Access to education remains a key concern in Pakistan, especially in emergencies. UNICEF’s support in 2024 has ensured access to formal and non-formal education for at least 146,716 crisis-affected children thus far.
  • UNICEF's 2024 Humanitarian Appeal for Children totals $135.6 million. Despite generous contributions from donors, a 73 per cent funding gap remains.
