Tribesmen partially boycott polio drive

LANDI KOTAL: The tribesmen of Sultan Khel of Landi Kotal division boycotted the anti-polio campaign to be launched from today (Monday) against constant suspension of electricity to the area,however it was resumed after assurance of the administration.

Number of the locality on Monday collectively refused to feed anti-polio vaccine to their children against cutting of power supply to their area. Akhtar Nawaz,a resident of Sultan Khel said that in the scorching heat,the electricity remained off for two days that created artificial scarcity of potable water in the area.

He maintained that large number of people had got connection of dual lines that overloaded feeders and caused disturbance of flow of electricity. The tribesmen threatened that until supply of power to their village,they would not permit the health officials to carry out the polio drive in Sultan Khal village.

When the Tehsildar Landi Kotal, Shams-ul-Islam was contacted on the issue he said that got informed,he moved to the area, initiated dialog with the elders and persuaded them to initiate the polio drive. He added that flow of electricity was resumed and the polio teams were dispatched to the locality.
