TRCS response to earthquake in Pakistan

An earthquake with the scale of 6,4 on the Richter scale hit 70 kmnortheast of Quettacity, the capital of Balochistan province in Pakistan. According to initial reports, 160 lives have been lost and about 15.000 people are estimated to have become homeless. The number of casualties is expected to rise.

According to information received by Turkish Red Crescent (TRCS) Global Disaster Monitoring Unit which works on a 24/7 basis, International Relief Unit in TRCS Operation Centre is immediately alerted and response activities are initiated. Within few hours after the alert, a Field Assessment Team has been deployed to disaster area. This team is also tasked with relief operation and the coordination of response activities between Pakistani Red Crescent and the TRCS Recovery-Rehabilitation team which was already in Pakistan.

As a response to an earthquake which had caused the lives of many thousands and major property damage on October 2005 in Pakistan, TRCS had responded with relief operations and has been continuing its presence in Pakistan ever since with long term recovery and rehabilitation projects.

As the developments on the situation are being monitored, additional TRCS personnel are being kept in standby for a possible larger response activity.
