Riyadh – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has provided US$5,397,300 to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for efforts in Pakistan to assist those displaced by last year’s flooding.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed yesterday between the Saudi Fund for Development and UNDP will channel funds towards community infrastructure restoration and rehabilitation in some of the country’s worst flood-affected areas.
The restoration and rehabilitation work includes about 279 kilometres of important roads, 98 kilometres of village streets, 122 small bridges, 199 culverts and 168 channels.
The MoU was signed in Riyadh by Yousef Ibrahim Al-Bassam, SFD Vice Chairman and Managing Director, and Riyad Mussa Al-Ahmad, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative.
The Saudi Fund for Development was established by royal decree to participate in financing development projects, assigning priorities to least developed, low-income countries. UNDP has been in Saudi Arabia since 1965, providing technical assistance to help the Kingdom achieve its development goals.
