The Reconstruction of 180 schools in Malakand Division complete soon, PaRRSA

The reconstruction of 180 schools in Malakand Division under the provision of Provincial reconstruction Rehabilitation & Settlement Authority-PaRRSA is in completion stages. Many of those schools will be completed within this month. Reconstruction of about 50 schools in remote areas is halted due to heavy snow fall and extreme cold.

According to PaRRSA, 180 schools were completely destroyed in Malakand division during militancy. 134 schools amongst ruined schools buildings were in swat region, 21 in Dir Upper, 17 in Buner, 5 in Dir Lower and 3 in Shangla.

PaRRSA started reconstruction in Malakand region immediately after successful military operation against terrorism paving way of peace and normalcy. PaRRSA focused on reconstruction of infrastructure specifically partially damaged school buildings. Afterwards completely damaged schools got the attention. Currently reconstruction work is in progress on 180 schools buildings. USAID is supporting the reconstruction of 116 schools in Malakand Region, including 78 in swat, 25 in Dir, and 13 in Buner. UAE Government is also supporting the reconstruction of 37 schools. Qatar Charity is assisting in 3 schools, while CARE International is assisting in 2 schools. UN-Habitat, Save-The-Children and GiZ are also supporting one school each. Under Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Package, the reconstruction of 1 school is in progress.

Many amongst these schools will be completed within this month. Due to snow fall and cold weather in remote hilly areas is causing the delay in reconstruction. Construction work will restart on those, as the weather is better and commute of raw material and labor is possible.
