Situation Update

As of 8th September 2014: NDMA coordinated aviation rescue and relief efforts with Pak Army, other agencies and district administration to support evacuation of people from flooded areas around river Chenab and Jhelum. A total of 9 helicopters are taking part in the rescue operation. NDMA has so far dispatched 10,000 tents, 26 Boats, 100 Life Jackets to Government of Punjab and 200 tents, 1000 blankets and 3 Rubber Boats to Islamabad Capital Territory. In addition, to this, Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) continues carrying out rescue and relief activities in Jhelum. PDMA volunteers distributed over 1000 food hampers with 200 tents and one water filtration plant among the affectees.

Rescue Punjab Director General Dr Rizwan Naseer visited Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Gujrat, Jhelum, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin and Jhang districts to monitor flood rescue and relief operations. According to the Provincial Monitoring Cell, 7,000 flood affected people have been evacuated and transported to safer places, from which 1,505 have been rescued in Mandi Bahauddin, 1,467 in Hafizabad, 1,143 in Sialkot, 710 in Gujranwala, 616 in Narowal, 300 in Chiniot, 217 in Jehlum, 125 in Sheikhupura and 107 in Lahore.
