Powerful earthquake in Pakistan, Johanniter support victims with ambulance service

Berlin / Islamabad: A mobile ambulance of Johanniter will treat victims of a powerful earthquake, which struck the Pakistan province Baluchistan this morning. Since last year's floodings the ambulance is offering medical services to the population of Baluchistan province. A medical team is now being relocated to the affected district. Additionally, a medical coordinator of the Johanniter team in Pakistan will travel to the earthquake region, to assess the situation in coordination with local authorities.

Thousands of people have been left homeless and hundreds have been killed or injured by three earthquakes, which hit southwest Pakistan before daybreak on Wednesday. Since the earthquake of October 2005 Johanniter is active in Pakistan and supports the population with housing and health programmes in Kashmir, Baluchistan and North West Frontier Province. Donations of 4.56 Million Euros have been used for these projects in the last three years.
