Pakistan: US military hospital treated 2,000 patients

The United States military field hospital in Shinkiari has so far provided treatment to 2,000 quake affected persons.

The Combined Medical Relief Team-3 has been deployed at Shinkiari as part of the United States' support to the Pakistani-led relief efforts for October 8 earthquake.

The U.S. Marines and Sailors deployed to the heart of the earthquake zone from their base in Japan and began seeing patients from November 17.

The hospital has an operating room, x-ray capability, laboratory, pharmacy and 60 beds for in-patient care.

The 2000th patient, a young Pakistani boy, was treated and released for a skin ailment on Tuesday.

The CMRT-3 is filling a vital gap by providing medical care to the local population, as nearly all of the existing medical facilities in the region were destroyed or damaged in the disaster.
