Pakistan - Severe weather (DG ECHO, National Disaster Preparedness authorities-NDMA, Provincial Disaster preparedness authorities (PDMA), Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), NOAA-CPC, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 26 May 2025)

  • Heavy rainfall, strong winds, and hailstorms affected northern Pakistan, particularly Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Islamabad, resulting in at least 20 deaths and 150 injured, most of them in Punjab.
  • The severe weather led to significant disruptions, including power outages, road and air traffic disruptions, and infrastructure damage, with 113 power feeders tripping across KP province affecting Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Swat and Abbottabad.
  • In Punjab, windstorms and rains affected crop, infrastructure, and electricity supply in many districts. Flights and motorways were also closed due to the winds and heavy rains across Punjab and KP provinces.
  • From May 24-29, further isolated rainfall, windstorms, dust storms, and hailstorms are expected across various regions, including KP, Upper Punjab, Baluchistan, and parts of Sindh.
