Pakistan: Saudi Arabia to provide 4000 pre-fabricated houses, contract signed

Islamabad, October 12nd, 2006: Saudi Arabia will provide 4000 pre-fabricated houses to Pakistan and in this regard a contract has been signed here Thursday. Saudi Public Assistance for Pakistan Earthquake Victims (SPAPEV) a Saudi Arabia based organization signed a contract with local companies here at simple ceremony held at Marriot hotel hall.

Saudi Ambassador, Ali Awadh Asseri while briefing mediamen, said that Saudi Arabia will continue to support the quake affected people till their complete rehabilitation. Saudi Ambassador said these pre-fabricated houses will be provided to Balakot area and process of construction will be completed within four months period. He said this is part of the continuing effort by the Saudi Arabia in Pakistan to extend all possible help and assistance to those who have suffered as a consequences of the ravages of the killer earthquake.

The Ambassador said these houses will be equipped with all required facilities and over 16.7 million dollar will be spent on the project. He recalled since the quake hit Pakistan in October last, Saudi people and the government provided a large quantity of relief goods to quake affected people. He said Saudi aid agencies including Saudi Public Assistance for Pakistan Earthquake Victims with the help of different ministries are working hard to provide every possible assistance to the victims of October 8 earthquake. He vowed to continue helping the quake affectees till their complete recovery.

Speaking on the occasion, Earthquake Reconstruction, and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) Director General, Monitoring and Evaluation, Brig. Sher Afgan Niazi briefed the newsmen about the work being carried out by ERRA. He lauded Saudi Arabia for extending help to Pakistan in hour of need, which shows its love and affection for the people and government of Pakistan.

Earlier, a contract of 4000 pre-fabricated was signed by Saudi Public Assistance for Pakistan Earthquake Victims, Regional Director, Abdullah Al-Anqari and three local companies.

Those signed the contract with Saudi Public Assistance for Pakistan Earthquake Victims are United Business System, Michigan Climax Builders and EURO Gulf Trading (Dynoshells).

It is pertinent to mention here that SPAPEV working in Pakistan soon after the October 8 earthquake and had provided so far a large quantity of relief goods of worth millions of dollars.

The organization SPAPEV had visited the quake hit areas on the special instruction of Saudi Government, Interior Minister, Prince Naif bin Abdul Aziz and assess the needs of people in quake-ravaged areas. SPAPEV recently have installed shelter-schools in Kotli Satian, Murree, for about 300 hundred children including girls, besides providing schools bags and other essential items.The SPAPEV also provided relief goods of worth Riyals 500,000 to flood affected people of Charsada, NWFP.

Saudi Ambassador, is providing all assistance in the relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction projects of SPAPEV.

SPAPEV, Deputy Regional Director, Dr. Muhammad Khalid Al-Othmani, Media Director, Ibrahim A.I. Al-Homaily, and others were also present on the occasion.
