Pakistan: Rs. 229.527 mln disbursed among quake victims of NWFP: ISPR

The civil administration with the help of Pakistan Army has so far disbursed Rs. 229.525 million among earthquake victims of NWFP whose houses were either totally destroyed or suffered partial damages.
According to an ISPR press release here Tuesday, joint teams comprising representatives of Pakistan Army, revenue department and local nazimeen and councilors were tasked to assess damages to property.

The joint teams submitted their reports to the District Coordination Officers (DCO) of concerned districts.

According to report, 40047 houses were destroyed in Mansehra including Kala Dhaka while 30474 houses were partially damaged. In Batagram 25685 houses were destroyed and 17124 partially damaged.

In Abbottabad 19859 were collapsed and 32225 houses were partially damaged. As many as 7426, 18995 houses were totally daaged and 5984, 37130 were partially damaged in districts of Kohistan and Shangla respectively.

The DCOs of respective districts disbursed an amount of Rs. 229.525 million among earthquake victims including Rs. 128.625 million in Mansehra, and Rs. 50.075 mln and Rs. 50.825 million each in Abbottabad and shangla districts resepcitlvley.

The process of payment of compensation to the victims in Batgram and Kohistan would soon be started.

In wake of severe cold weather and snowfall on the hilltops of Kaghan valley, 2780 more persons have migrated to plain areas.

Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (EME) of Pakistan Army with the help of WAPDA officials have restored electricity of telephone exchange at Sangar and tent village and field hospital at Kawai.

It may be mentioned that 8531 families are currently living in 269 tent villages established by Pakistan Army in Batgram. These tents villages are being managed by Civil Administration.

Pakistan Army's air and ground operations continued with full swing to provide relief goods to the affected people in the quake hit ares of the province.

As many as 25 sorties of the helicopters airlifted relief goods including 1078 tents, 952 blankets, 11.29 tons of ration, 0.162 ton medicines and 21.496 tons of other relief goods to the victims in affected ares of Mansehra, Kaghan and Batgram.

From Army's main operational base at Mansehra, 78 sorties were flown by Army Aviation helicopters dropping 58.8 tons supplies to various locations in the affected areas. The United Nations MI 8 and MI 26 helicopters also airlifted 29 tons of supplies.

Supply of relief goods also continued by road and 73 trucks loaded with 6304 tents, 3884 blankets and 22.630 tons ration were dispatched to Chatter Plain, Garhi Habib Ullah, Balakot, Shinkiari, Batgram, Darband and other areas, the ISPR release said.
