Pakistan: Rescue, relief operation in quake affected areas in top gear - Sherry
ISLAMABAD, Oct 30 (APP): Minister
for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman said on Thursday that rescue
and relief operation in the earthquake affected districts of Balochistan
was underway in top gear. Talking to media at the Parliament House she
said that Army, Prime Minister Secretariat, National Disaster Management
Authority (NDMA) were coordinating their efforts with the provincial government.
Expressing sympathy with the quake victims, she said that it was a great
human tragedy but timely relief work would mitigate sufferings of the quake
hit people of Balochistan.
She said that 10 helicopters were being used in rescue operation. So far 6000 blankets, 4300 tents and large quantity of edibles items have been dispatched to the affected areas. A federal minister has been sent to the quake hit areas, she said, adding that it would take some more time to ascertain the losses in the natural calamity.
To a question she said that Pakistan would welcome aid for rehabilitation of affected people from the international community.
