Pakistan: Newsflash, 14 Oct 2005

A GOAL team of 9 specialists have commenced humanitarian activity in the isolated town of Bagh and surrounding villages, high in the Kashmir mountains.
Bagh has already been totally devastated with virtually no buildings left standing. GOAL is the only NGO providing humanitarian assistance to the stricken population. The hospital in Bagh has been destroyed and there are no doctors in the town. The Pakistan army is attempting to evacuate injured people out of Bagh to other areas for treatment.

Ray Jordon, GOAL's Emergency Coordinator, said today from Bagh "The greatest needs of the people are appropriate food provisions for the coming two months until the situation stabilises, as well as appropriate shelter for the oncoming winter snows."

GOAL will immediately provide tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, kits etc. for those greatest in need.
