Over the past 24 hours, 24 people have died and 115 have been injured following monsoon rains that continues to affect most of Pakistan.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), as of 4 September, more than 1,300 people have died and more than 12,700 have been injured. In addition, almost 632,000 people have been evacuated and more than 33 million affected, most of them in Sindh and Balochistan Province.
On 28 August, the European Commission mobilized EUR 2.35 million in emergency humanitarian funding to address the most urgent needs of the affected population.
On 29 August, the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) was activated following a request for support from the Pakistani authorities. Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France and Sweden have offered relief assistance.
The EU's Copernicus Emergency Mapping Service was activated on 29 August (EMSR629) to support damage assessment, and nine maps have been produced so far.
