Pakistan Meteorological Department: Weekly Drought Information (17 July 2023) [EN/UR]

During last week, rain was reported in most parts of country. The significant change was occurred in the Drought areas during last week with respect to the previous week as shown in the figure. Overall conditions are normal in Pakistan. However, the situation in the coastal and adjacent areas of Sindh and Balochistan is looking less humid than before.

Duration of forecast: 17 July to 23 July, 2023

On July 17, the weather will remain hot and humid in most of the plains of the country. Later afternoon/evening, rain with strong winds and thundershowers is expected in Kashmir, Potohar region, North East Punjab and Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the Meteorological Department, monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea will enter the upper and central regions of the country on July 18 (night), which will intensify on July 19.

During 18 July (Night) to 23 July, Kashmir (Wadi Neelum, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sidhanoti, Kotli, Bhimbar, Mirpur), Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astoor, Ghazar, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shagar) ), Murree, Guliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujarat, Kasur, Mianwali, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Sahiwal, Bahawalnagar, Okara. , Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Bunir, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Karam, Lucky Marwat, Kohat, DI Khan, Bannu, Kirk and Waziristan are likely to experience strong winds/thunderstorm. Intermittent rain with lightening while heavy/heavy rain also likely to occur in some areas.

From July 19 (Night) to July 21, Barkhan, Loralai, Kalat, Khuzdar, Zhob, Lasbela, Awaran, Musa Khel, DG Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Bhakkar, Leh, Kot Addo, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, Larkana and Jacobabad have chances of intermittent rain with gusty winds/thunderstorm.

During 19 July(evening/night) to 23 July, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Tharparkar, Umarkot, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Dadu with strong winds and thunder. Intermittent rain with gusty winds/windstorm and thundershowers while heavy/heavy rain is also likely to occur in Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Sanghar, Badin, Thatta and Karachi.
