HIGHLIGHTS of October 2024

▪ CPI (YoY) based Annual Headline Inflation is at 7.2%, up from 6.9% the previous month, while CPI (MoM) increased 1.2% in October compared to the previous month (September 2024).

▪ Annual Food Inflation increased by 0.93% compared to same time last year (October 2023).

▪ Staple cereals prices compared to the previous month.

o Wheat and wheat flour (subsidized) prices increased slightly, while wheat flour (fine) and rice prices decreased slightly.

o Compared to the previous year, a significant year-on-year decrease was noted for wheat and wheat flour prices along with a slight decrease for both rice varieties (Irri-6 and Basmati).

• Non-cereal food prices fluctuated.

o Slight (MoM) increases occurred in the prices of pulses (moong (+6.1%), Gram (+4.4%)) while slight decreases were noted for sugar (-4.0%) and pulses (mash (-6.0%), masoor (-2.8%). The largest increases over the past year were pulses (Gram (+70%), moong (+28%)), chicken (+24%) while prices decreased for sugar (-10%), cooking oil (-10%), ghee (-5%), pulse masoor (-5%) and eggs (-3%).

▪ Terms of Trade (ToT) has worsened by 3.9% over the past month while overall it improved by 61% compared to a year ago.
