HIGHLIGHTS of May 2024

▪ CPI-Based Annual Headline Inflation is at 11.76%, down from 38% in May 2023.

▪ Annual Food Inflation improved significantly to -0.17%, down from 48.65% in May 2023.

▪ Staple cereals prices declined compared to the previous month.

o Wheat and wheat flour prices declined significantly while rice prices declined slightly.

o Compared to the previous year, substantial year-on-year increases in prices were observed across rice varieties and decreases in the price of wheat and wheat flour.

• Fluctuations in non-cereal food prices

o Negligible (MoM) increase was noted in the price of pulse mash while slight decreases were noted in the prices of pulses masoor and moong. Significant (YoY) price spikes were observed for pulses mash and masoor.

o A significant decrease was recorded in the price of chicken (-27%) along with a slight decrease for eggs compared to prices in April 2024.

▪ Terms of Trade (ToT) has improved by 28% over the past month and by 58% compared to a year ago.
