HIGHLIGHTS of December 2024
▪ CPI (YoY) based Annual Headline Inflation is at 4.9%, down from 7.2% the previous month, while CPI (MoM) increased 0.5% in November compared to the previous month.
▪ Annual Food Inflation decreased by 0.24% compared to same time last year (November 2023).
▪ Staple cereals prices compared to the previous month.
o Wheat, wheat flour (subsidized) and wheat flour (fine) prices increased slightly between 2% to 4%.
o Compared to the previous year, a significant year-on-year decrease was noted for wheat and wheat flour prices along with a slight decrease for both rice varieties (Irri-6 and Basmati).
• Non-cereal food prices fluctuated compared to the previous month.
o Price of eggs spiked significantly compared to previous month along with slight increases in the prices of pulse moong, ghee, and cooking oil. Over the past year, the largest increases were noted for pulses (gram, moong) along with slight increases for chicken and eggs. Meanwhile, prices were slightly lower for sugar, cooking oil and pulses masoor and mash.
▪ Terms of Trade (ToT) has improved by 0.5% over the past month while overall it improved by 63% compared to a year ago.
