KOHAT [ACTED News] – 11,346 families are living in Jalozai camp and 42,051 families are living off-camp, according to the Pakistan Disaster Management Authority’s latest report on the IDP crisis in northwest Pakistan. The majority of off-camp IDPs choose to live off camp due to the long queues at Jalozai camp, lack of transport to the camps and the perceived increased vulnerability of female family members in the camp (Purdah walls are not yet constructed to protect women’s privacy), according to the newly released inter-agency rapid assessment, in which ACTED participated. Most off-camp IDPs are residing in Peshawar, Nowshera and Kohat. In each area, the need for shelter and food remain the highest priorities of the displaced families.
Data collected by ACTED reveals that many off-camp IDPs place an immense strain on the limited housing and water, sanitation and hygiene facilities of the host communities.
