Heatwave in Pakistan’s largest city, Karachi, and other districts of southern Sindh province has killed over 500 people over the last six days, 141 of whom died on 25 June alone with peak temperature of 49 °C (120 °F).
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported only nine deaths in Karachi on 27 June with total of 6,193 heatstroke cases were admitted to the hospitals.
The provincial government has declared a state of emergency across all hospitals, halting leave for doctors and other medical personnel while bolstering stocks of medical supplies.
In Karachi, residents are enduring power outages lasting between 12 to 14 hours, significantly affecting their ability to remain cool and safe during this crisis.
