FAST FACTS

• From July 1 to August 4, Pakistan experienced severe monsoon rains leading to widespread flooding across multiple provinces. A severe Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) hit Booni Gloe Nullah in the Upper Chitral district affecting the local bridge, powerhouse and irrigation canals.

• To date, 126 people have died, 239 people have been injured and more than 700 houses damaged across Pakistan by the torrential rains and flash floods, displacing 7,535 people. There are 2,170 IDPs living in a relief camp established by the District Disaster Management Authority in Sangar district of Sind province.

• A flood emergency has been declared in Upper Chitral district by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government until August 30, to facilitate relief activities.

• Since 1984, International Medical Corps has been providing health, nutrition, protection, mental health and psychosocial support, and water, sanitation and hygiene services across Pakistan.

OUR RESPONSE

• International Medical Corps has deployed teams in KP and Sind provinces to assess the situation.
We have reinforced health facilities in targeted areas and mobilized two mobile health units to provide immediate lifesaving assistance to affected and at-risk communities.
