Pakistan - Flash floods, heatwave and earthquake (DG ECHO Partners, NDMA, IFRC, NOAA-CPC) (ECHO Daily Flash of 30 June 2025)

  • On 27 June, severe flash floods in Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province caused the River Swat's flow to surge dramatically, resulting in nine fatalities and six missing persons. Earlier floods in Kumrat Valley, Upper Dir District on 21 June, led to one death and 20 injuries. These events damaged infrastructure and isolated communities, prompting emergency operations and relief efforts. The full extent of the destruction is still under evaluation.
  • Since 26 June, heavy rainfall has affected Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, causing casualties and infrastructure damage. According to National Disaster Preparedness Authorities (NDMA), during the last five days, 45 people died, 68 were injured, 1,050 displacements were recorded and 89 houses are fully and partially damaged. Continued vigilance is necessary as heavy rain is forecasted for the next 48 hours in northern Pakistan.
  • Eastern Balochistan region faces a heatwave, causing seasonal movements to cooler areas like Mastung. Limited relocations have occurred, but no major displacements are reported so far.
  • In addition, on 29 June, a 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck Musakhel district, Balochistan injuring five people and causing damage to hundreds of houses, assessments and aid are currently ongoing.
