Pakistan: Climate Vulnerability Assessment - District Climate Profile (September - November 2024) - Thatta District, Sindh Province

Attachments

The Climate Vulnerability Assessment (CVA) is an initiative led by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and implemented through its Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) programme to better understand how climate-related hazards influence human mobility in Pakistan. The assessment examines the interaction between climate risks, socio-economic vulnerabilities, and mobility dynamics, with the aim of informing resilience-building efforts and evidence-based policymaking.

This report presents findings from a community-level assessment conducted in Thatta District (Sindh Province), a coastal area highly exposed to climate hazards such as rising sea levels and recurrent flooding. Data were collected between 30 September and 19 November 2024 through group interviews with key informants in 538 settlements across four Union Councils—Buhara, Keti Bunder, Haji Ghirano, and Dhabeji.

The findings provide insights into how climate pressures are affecting livelihoods, settlement sustainability, and mobility decisions in Thatta, and aim to support government counterparts, humanitarian actors, and development partners in strengthening climate resilience in high-risk coastal communities.
