The Basic Health Unit was inaugurated by Azad Jammu Kashmir Premier Sardar Yaqoob Khan on the other day.
The SPAPEV organization has released funds of 2 million US dollars to UNICEF for the construction of Five Basic Health Units (BHUs) to provide modern health facilities to the people of quake-hit areas.
The organization was established under the directives of King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud and is actively engaged in the reconstruction and rehabilitation activities in the affected areas of AJK and NWFP since October 8, 2005 earthquake.
These five BHUs will be equipped with all essential facilities including dispensary, LHV ROOM, Pharmacy, besides accommodation for paramedical staff.
The Organization is also completing some 20 schools in AJK and NWFP areas with the cost of 1.5 million US dollar and soon, it would be handed over to Read Foundation already engaged in providing academic services to the quake-torn students of the area. So far, the organization has completed some 4000 pre-fabricated houses in Balakot area to accommodate the displaced families of October 8, devastating earthquake. The work on the project was completed at a cost of 18.5 million US dollar. All these projects are being completed under the supervision of Prince Naif, Saudi Interior Minister, and guidance of Dr. Saed Al Harithy, the Advisor to Interior Minister who is also the Chairman of SPAPEV.
Since the organization started its operation in quake hit areas, it provided 200,000 blankets, 150,000 quilts, 12500 winterized tents, 4.0 million Saudi Riyals' medicine, stoves, 100,000 food packets containing sugar, pulses, Ghee, Oil, rice, flour bags, etc. and thousands of polypropylene sheets "Tarpal" for the affectees. The Organization (SPAPEV) has also handed over a huge quantity of relief aid worth millions of riyals to different organization including International Islamic Relief Organization, Al-Hubaib Foundation, Al-Khidmat Foundation, Read Foundation, ERRA, National Volunteer Movement, AJK and NWFP governments for onward 'distribution.
It also provided two million dollars to World Food Program for the purchase of flour bags which had already been distributed among the affectees of earthquake.
Saudi Public Assistance for Pakisatan Earthquake Victims is a Saudi based relief organization, which is formed in Riyadh to ensure the best utilization of Saudi public donations collected from the Saudi people on the call of Saudi Government to help Oct 8, 2005 earthquake affectees in Pakistan.
