This service mapping of activities that promote Accountability to Affected People (AAP) and Community Engagement (CE) in Pakistan was conducted by OCHA in October 2022. The findings highlight what organisational and response decision-makers need to consider to effectively communicate with affected people in formats and languages they prefer.
Almost all (98%) organisations ask affected people about the information they need. Information is regularly shared on available services (87%) and eligibility criteria (77%). Information is primarily shared in Urdu (87%) through face-to-face channels such as community mobilisers/volunteers (92%). The most common social media platforms are Facebook (92%) and WhatsApp (87%).
Organisations should do more to share information with women and girls (including older women and women-headed households) and people who cannot read or write. Communications should include a greater focus on explaining how affected people can be involved in decision-making for the response and their right to give feedback or make a complaint.
