NDMA Monsoon 2017 Daily Situation Report No. 007 (Period covered: 1300 HRS 07 July 2017 – 1300 HRS 08 July 2017)

  1. Rivers Flow Situation Reported by Flood Forecasting Division. All rivers are flowing at Normal Level. Medium to High Flood is likely in River Chenab at Marala & River Jhelum at Mangla upstream along with Nullahs of Rivers Ravi & Chenab, Northeast Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Hill Torrents of D.G Khan Division is expected from 11 th to 13th July 2017. Details at Annex A.

  2. Past Meteorological Situation and Future Forecast by PMD. No significant rainfall reported in last 24 hours. Forecast for next 24 hours predicts Wind-thundershowers with very heavy isolated rainfalls are expected over Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan along with upper catchments of River Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi & Sutlej fromth to 13th July 2017. Details at Annex B.

  3. Dam Levels

  4. Significant Events Last 24 Hours. Due to rainfall a low level flash flooding was reported in Tehsil Karakh, District Khuzdar, Balochistan on 7th July 2017 during evening time. No damages have been reported.

  5. Road Situation (NHA and Respective Provinces).
    a. Due to flash flooding in Tehsil Karakh, District Khuzdar, Balochistan, Karakh road between Lakharo & Bhalook was blocked. With the efforts of PDMA Balochistan road is now open for all type of traffic.
    b. All other roads across the Country are clear for all types of traffic.

  6. Railway Situation. All railway routes are clear for traffic.

  7. Preliminary Losses / Damages Reported. Overall details of losses / damages during Monsoon Season 2017 are at Annex C.

  8. Relief Provided. Overall details of relief provided are at Annex D.

  9. Any Critical Activity to Report. Nothing to Report.

  10. NDMA Recommendation. Recent rains have highlighted some of the weaknesses / anomalies which if not addressed can aggravate flooding situation in urban centres as well as along the water courses and hilly areas:-
    a. Clearance of sewerage / drainage system in all major cities including Karachi, Rawalpindi, Lahore & Peshawar by all stakeholders.
    b. Shifting of people residing in / close to river plains / water courses.
    c. Raising awareness to public with regards to vacating dangerous buildings, remaining away from electric wires and avoid swimming during rain.
    d. Awareness about not venturing into nullahs / flash flooding routes.
    e. NHA, FWO and C&W Depts of respective Provinces / Regions may please remain vigilant in restoring road linkages.
    f. NHEPRN to ensure that spread of water borne diseases are mitigated by pre-placement of necessary medicines / vaccinations where required.
