July 13, 2023 - Save the Children Pakistan and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to extend their partnership with NDMA to enhance emergency preparedness, response, rehabilitation, and recovery initiatives in the country.
The MoU signifies the commitment of both organizations to prioritize the well-being and rights of children during emergencies and disasters, thereby safeguarding their rights, health, protection, and nutrition. Under the MoU, Save the Children Pakistan and NDMA will work on capacity-building programs, joint advocacy efforts, awareness campaigns, and institutional strengthening activities, ensuring that the unique needs and vulnerabilities of children are adequately addressed- ultimately minimizing the impact of disasters on children.
Addressing the delegation of Save the Children, Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik said: “I strongly believe in the significance of building and strengthening local capacities in disaster preparedness and response. In addition, we need to establish efficient mechanisms to streamline humanitarian efforts and prevent duplication of efforts during emergencies.” He thanked Save the Children for their support and reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Pakistan."
Save the Children Pakistan Country Director, Muhammad Khuram Gondal emphasized the importance of this collaboration during the signing ceremony. He stated, "Children are the most vulnerable during emergencies, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure their well-being and protection. Through this partnership, we aim to strengthen emergency preparedness and response mechanisms to safeguard the rights and needs of children affected by disasters."
The signing of the MoU represents a significant milestone in combining the expertise and resources of Save the Children Pakistan and NDMA to make a tangible difference in protecting the lives and futures of children in times of crisis.
