Monsoon Floods in Pakistan - Situation Report (26 June to 16 August 2025)

Attachments

Introduction

Heavy monsoon rains continue to impact all regions of Pakistan, with particularly severe conditions reported in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB). The most recent spell (14–15 August) triggered devastating flash floods, cloudbursts, and landslides in KP and GB, causing extensive loss of life and property. According to NDMA, cumulative nationwide figures since 26 June 2025 stand at 645 fatalities and 905 injuries, with KP alone accounting for 383 deaths and 232 injuries. Infrastructure damages are equally severe, with over 1,913 houses destroyed or damaged, 587 livestock lost, 124 bridges, and nearly 450 km of roads affected. Reports from MET depart. warns that current monsoon will remain active, and with an approaching westerly wave, further urban flooding, flash floods, and landslides are likely in vulnerable areas.

Amid this unfolding emergency, Islamic Relief Pakistan (IRP) mobilized within 36 hours, reaching remote and hard-hit areas (especially in Buner, KP) where access is severely restricted by damaged roads and broken communications. With electricity and internet down in several areas, our teams are working side-by-side with authorities to rescue stranded families, provide cooked meals and clean drinking water.

Initial assessments point to unprecedented levels of destruction. IRP plans to reach 15,000 families (around 100,000 people) with life-saving assistance in the immediate phase, followed by longer-term recovery and rehabilitation over the next 12–18 months. The situation remains fluid, and our response will continue to adapt in close coordination with the government, UN agencies, and humanitarian partners to ensure that no one is left behind.

The following sections consolidates the evolving situation, cumulative damages, and ongoing humanitarian
relief and response efforts.
