KSRelief Monthly Bulletin: Floods in Pakistan, September 2022

Attachments

Torrential rains and melting glaciers have caused the most severe flooding in Pakistan’s recent history, leading to the worst climate-induced natural disaster the country has witnessed in years. Hundreds of thousands of homes have been destroyed or damaged, and more than 100,000 people have become displaced as they have fled in search of safety.

The floodwaters also destroyed or damaged vast amounts of public infrastructure, including health facilities, water systems, roads, bridges, and schools. Entire villages have washed away, leaving millions in need of emergency assistance to obtain such basics as safe drinking water, food and shelter. Many families are living out in the open, exposed to a wide range of flood-related risks and hazards, from drowning to the increased risk of contracting waterborne diseases and becoming malnourished.

KSRELIEF’S NATIONAL CAMPAIGN TO SUPPORT FLOOD-AFFECTED PEOPLE IN PAKISTAN

KSrelief has launched a national campaign to collect public donations from people in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia who wish to help provide relief to flood-affected people in Pakistan. The country, which was recently hit by devastating and continuous heavy rains, is reeling from the extensive flooding that has inundated more than a third of Pakistan’s total land area.

The campaign launch is in line with the Kingdom’s leading global humanitarian role, and underscores the close ties between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Donations were collected via the online “Sahem” e-donation platform. KSrelief does not deduct any administrative fees from the donations it collects.
