KP government fully committed towards reconstruction and rehabilitation of the earthquake and flood hit areas: CM KP

PESHAWAR: The Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has said that the provincial government has provided rescue and sufficient relief to both flood and earthquake hit communities in the province, as we consider this our primary responsibility.

He was talking at the Partners Workshop on “Recovery and Rehabilitation of Earthquake and Flood Damaged Areas of KP”, Organized by Provincial Disaster Management Authority- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, yesterday in Islamabad. Chief Secretary KP Amjad Ali Khan, Provincial Ministers Enayatullah Khan, Ikramullah Gandhapur, and Muzaffar Sayed, Ambassadors of Japan, European Union, a large number of diplomats and country heads of International NGOs, authorities of KP P&D, Relief, Finance departments, NDMA and PDMA participated in the workshop.

He added, the provincial government has so far contributed Rs. 11.5 billion to the district administrations to be paid as compensation to the calamity hits victims. The Chief Minister, KP also acknowledged the support of all stakeholders who took part in the relief activities and thanked Pak Army, NDMA, PDMA, and the district administrations for their proactive role in rescue and relief operations.

He said that his government was fully committed to be engaged in effective, comprehensive and result oriented planning. He reaffirmed his government conviction towards well-conceived and properly planned reconstruction and rehabilitation work in the affected areas of the Province.

He said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province had frequently experienced alarming and diverse portfolio of natural disasters that resulted in large scale impact on life, properties, and infrastructures, social and cultural relationships as well. However, he said that they understand that appropriate planning for sustainable reconstruction and rehabilitation will be a very crucial and wise step for building back safer communities.

DG PDMA briefed the participants of the workshop about the damages reported due to floods in Chitral and earthquake in Malakand Division. The participants were informed that the sector wise reconstruction estimates both for the floods and earthquake stands at around US dollars $40 million approximately 40 billion rupees. Earlier Senior Minister Local Government also emphasized to have a well-coordinated mechanism between the donors and the provincial government for reconstruction.

Ambassadors from different countries and Country Heads of UN Agencies pledged to jointly work for the rehabilitation of the affected population to ensure sustainable development in the area. They also informed, that International Humanitarian Organizations and other partners are already on ground to support the KP government in different rehabilitation programs.
