Islamabad - The shifting of seriously injured in the earthquake to Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zayed military hospital would resume tomorrow after a lapse of four days, according to the UAE Ambassador to Pakistan.
Ali Mohammed Al Shamis was quoted by the Pakistani newspaper "The News" as saying that on the directives of the President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a high level mission is scheduled to visit Pakistan capital within a couple of days to discuss rehabilitation and reconstruction of the earthquake devastated areas with UAE funds. The final programme of this delegation is being finalized through diplomatic channels.
He revealed that Sheikh Khalifa has sent a message to Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf that his government "would continue to provide assistance to brotherly people of Pakistan till the last affected is restored and the doors of support would be kept open."
"The UAE government has sent special gifts for all those admitted at the UAE Armed Forces hospital in Pakistan as a tent village is being established at Balakot near the UAE field hospital on the outskirts of the city. In the first phase, the UAE Red Crescent Society team will erect 100 tents to shelter about 500 homeless victims. They will also be provided basic needs of life on daily basis and will be treated as guests of UAE," he said.
Four of the seriously injured who were shifted last week have recovered remarkably are due to return in an ambulance C-130 plane of UAE air force Monday. On its return journey the same day the plane will airlift ten more earthquake victims to Abu Dhabi.
The ambassador said that the UAE has airlifted more than 87 tons of relief goods during last 48 hours by two flights to Islamabad. The supply would continue till it is needed for the ill-fated people.
The 100-bed field hospital set up by UAE is providing best medical services to the affected people of the area, the ambassador added. He also said that the government of Pakistan is appreciative of the assistance being provided by the UAE. Al Shamsi said that in all the mosques of the UAE prayers are being offered for Pakistan and the victims of the killer quake of October 8.
