Development and Peace sends $100,000 to aid earthquake victims in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Northern India
Aid will be distributed through Caritas Internationalis, the confederation of 162 Catholic relief, development, and social service organisations present in 200 countries and territories.
DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE is the official Catholic overseas development agency for Canada and the Canadian arm of Caritas Internationalis.
Other DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE partners in the region may be called upon to help after the full extent of the disaster is known. Initial estimates place the death toll at more than 20,000 in the hardest hit regions.
DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE will be in a position to answer calls from the public and accept donations as of Tuesday October 11, 2005.
DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE is also supporting relief efforts for Hurricane Stan victims in Mexico, El Salvador and Guatemala.
