Geneva, 9 January, 2003 - On 21
November, 2002 a strong earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale hit
the northern areas of Pakistan. The Government of Pakistan, UN agencies,
the Red Crescent, as well as several international and national NGOs contributed
relief supplies, such as medicine, tents, blankets, clothes and other essential
items.
ACT member, Church World Service Pakistan/Afghanistan,
along with implementing partner Islamic Relief, responded directly to the
most urgent needs of 500 of the most vulnerable families (3,500 individuals).
ACT provided an amount of USD 25,000 from the Rapid Response Fund to supplement
the USD 10,000 from CWS USA.
