Background
Drawing on the experience of the tsunami
crisis of December 2004, where programme communication was neglected at
the cost of unnecessary illness, injury and even death, immediately after
the earthquake that ravaged northern Pakistan on October 7 the need for
a programme communication response was recognized and responded to. Even
as program staff became absorbed in rescue and relief efforts, proactive
efforts and an inter-sectoral approach, programme communication became
an integral part of the relief and rehabilitation efforts. The rapid
communication response has been appreciated by many as necessary and timely.
