Oman: Ministerial panel reviews reconstruction projects in flood-damaged areas

MUSCAT - The ministerial committee set up on His Majesty the Sultan's Royal directives and tasked with overseeing the rebuilding of infrastructure and other projects affected by last year's adverse weather conditions in Oman, held its 9th meeting yesterday under the chairmanship of Ahmed bin Abdulnabi Macki, Minister of National Economy and Deputy Chairman of the Financial Affairs and Energy Resources Council.

The committee reviewed the status of various reconstruction initiatives approved in previous meetings. The panel also discussed the feasibility study, detailed engineering design and construction supervision of the flood protections dams planned at Wadi Adai. Other initiatives reviewed by the committee pertain to flood protection measures targeting industrial and residential areas in the wilayat of Al Amerat, as well as the Qurum commercial district.

The committee also reviewed preliminary drawings of new residential areas planned in the wilayat of Quriyat. The ministerial panel also approved the allocation of RO 2,562,750 for the removal of damaged trees, debris and other silt collected in wadis in the Wilayat of Sohar. Besides, it sanctioned RO 915,311 for the maintenance of roads leading to tourist attractions in Dhofar Governorate.
