Oman - Floods, update (media, Civil Aviation Authority) (ECHO Daily Flash of 14 February 2024)

  • Heavy rainfall has been affecting most of Oman (in particular northern Governorates) since 11 February, causing floods and a number of severe weather-related incidents that have resulted in casualties and damage.

  • According to media reports, as of 14 February, six people died, of which three in the Rustaq Town (Al Batinah South Governorate), two more in the Yanqul Town (Ad Dhahirah Governorate) and one in the Izki Town (Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate) due to floods. Media also report one person still missing, one injured person, an unconfirmed number of evacuated people (a number of these across 229 shelters), 190 rescued people and several flooded buildings throughout the affected Governorates.

  • Over the next 48 hours, no more rainfall is forecast over the whole country.
