Verification of damages to schools based on proximity to damaged sites - Gaza, Occupied Palestinian Territory, Update # 11, Nov. 2025

This snapshot outlines the results of assessing the probability of damage to school buildings by analyzing their proximity to damaged sites identified by UNOSAT using data collected on 11 October 2025.

MAIN FINDINGS

▪ This exercise indicates that 97.5% (a +0.0% increase from the previous reporting period) of schools sustained some level of damage to their buildings, this includes “Direct hit”, ”Damaged” and “Likely damaged”.

▪ Nearly 93.3% of school buildings in Gaza (526 out of 564) will either need full reconstruction or major rehabilitation work to be functional again.

▪ The assessment found that 459 school buildings (81.4% of the total school buildings in Gaza) have been “Direct hit” since 7 October 2023, an increase of 27 school buildings (+4.8%) since the previous reporting period.

▪ The 459 school buildings classified as “Direct hit” previously served approximately 497,712 students and 18,740 teachers, representing about 80.4% of the total student population and 80.9% of the total teaching staff.

▪ The 67 school buildings classified as “Damaged” served roughly 75,251students and 2,745 teachers, accounting for around 12.2% of the total student population and 11.9% of the total teaching staff.

▪ 77% of school buildings that have been used by IDP as shelters are ”Directly hit”.
