Days 821 - 827 since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip
Highlights
The Gaza Strip
- UNRWA recorded a notable increase in military activity over the past week. Israeli operations were concentrated in areas adjacent to the so-called “ Yellow Line”, which remains largely unmarked on the ground and where access to humanitarian facilities and assets, public infrastructure and agricultural land remain severely restricted or prohibited.
- Multiple UNRWA installations were affected by military activities by Israeli forces in the areas of Khan Younis and Gaza City. At least one fatality and several injuries were reported among displaced people sheltering inside UNRWA facilities.
- In early January, UNRWA teams rehabilitated a key water facility in Jabalia following extensive repair works, thus expanding delivery of clean water to the North Gaza area.
- As reported by OCHA, flooding on 30 December and on 9 January exposed families to cold temperatures and contaminated floodwater. Shelter supplies remain insufficient to meet the immense needs further exacerbated by the recent rains; an estimated one million people across Gaza still urgently require emergency shelter assistance.
The West Bank including East Jerusalem
- On 12 January, Israeli forces entered the UNRWA Jerusalem Health Centre, demanding the removal of UN signage. On the same day, a temporary closure order was issued against the Health Centre effective for thirty days. Simultaneously, UNRWA received notices that the electricity and water supply to UNRWA facilities in occupied East Jerusalem would be cut within fifteen days.
